Ryan Garcia B Sample Results

In the wake of Ryan Garcia’s emphatic win over rival Devin Haney, KingRy tested positive for Osterine – a banned PED. There had been much back and forth between Garcia and Haney in the build-up to the fight with many questioning Garcia’s mental state due to many outbursts on social media. During fight week this continued with Ryan Garcia coming in a colossal 3 pounds overweight for the bout. Many then began to question if this was tactical and all part of a master plan when Garcia seemingly swigged a beer on the scales (which turned out not to be alcohol). Perhaps ‘trolling’ all along to get inside Haney’s head. The physical advantage was evident on the night as Garcia dropped Haney multiple times and eventually won a majority decision against the Las Vegas resident.

Ryan Garcia tests positive for banned substance

Early in the following week after the fight news broke from Dan Rafael that Garcia had tested positive for a banned substance, Osterine.

Garcia positive tests per a source with direct knowledge: Failed for ostarine in two urine tests on April 19 and post-fight on April 20. April 19 sample also [from VADA letter] “screened positive but was not confirmed for 19-Norandrosterone pending IRMS analysis currently being run.

This news was then official confirmed and the storm ensued. Initially, Ryan Garcia took a firm defensive stance on the issue when he stated:

Since then Garcia has taken to his various social channels many times to either continue to deny or troll the boxing world as to his knowingly ingesting a PED.

What is Osterine?

Ostarine is a type of drug called a selective androgen receptor modulator (SARM). It’s not approved by the FDA, but is sometimes found in supplements. Ostarine attaches to proteins in the body known as androgen receptors. When Ostarine binds to these receptors, it tells muscles to grow. – Source WebMD

Ryan Garcia B Sample

Perhaps unsurprisingly it was confirmed in the week of 20th May 2024 that the B sample also tested positive for Osterine as well. What is next for Ryan Garcia remains to be seen and will no doubt be the decision of the New York State Athletic Commission. It will most likely not entail a rematch with Devin Haney who is expected to move up in weight class. Haney looked incredibly tight at the weight limit during fight week and no doubt played a part in his defeat to Garcia. In the meantime, KingRy continues to protest his innocence and be active on his social profiles as he travels the world in the wake of his victory over Haney.
