Benn vs Eubank History

Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn have a rivalry rooted in their family history. Their fathers, Chris Eubank Sr. and Nigel Benn, had a legendary British boxing feud in the 1990s, producing two iconic fights.

Eubank Sr. vs. Benn Sr. Rivalry

  1. First Fight (1990) – Eubank Sr. won by TKO in the ninth round, claiming the WBO middleweight title.

This rivalry was one of British boxing’s greatest, filled with personal animosity and competitive intensity.

Eubank Jr. vs. Benn Rivalry

The sons, Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn, have followed in their fathers’ footsteps, with both becoming prominent professional boxers. Despite competing in different weight classes (Eubank Jr. at middleweight/super middleweight and Benn at welterweight), there was growing interest in them fighting due to their names and personal history.

Scheduled 2022 Fight & Controversy

  • A fight between Eubank Jr. and Benn was scheduled for October 8, 2022, at a catchweight of 157 lbs.
  • However, the fight was canceled after Conor Benn tested positive for the banned substance clomiphene, which is often used to boost testosterone levels.
  • The British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) refused to sanction the fight.
  • Benn denied any wrongdoing and has since been fighting to clear his name.

Recent Developments

  • There has been ongoing talk of rescheduling the fight, but it remains uncertain due to Benn’s ongoing issues with UK boxing authorities.
  • Eubank Jr. moved on to other fights, including bouts against Liam Smith.
  • Benn, meanwhile, has been fighting outside the UK while dealing with his doping controversy.

The rivalry remains one of the most talked-about potential matchups in British boxing.

Eubank Benn ‘egg slap’

Here is footage courtesy of IFL TV of the infamous ‘egg slap’ where Chris Eubank hid a raw egg upon his person in order to use it to slap Connor Benn in the face with it during their press conference face-off. The gesture is seemingly in reference to Connor Benn’s inference that his positive for the banned substance clomiphene could have come from over-ingesting eggs in his diet.
