Frank Warren wins Warrington vs Galahad purse bid

Frank Warren has won the IBF’s purse bid for the upcoming contest where Josh Warrington will defend his title against Kid Galahad.

Josh Warrington is the man of the moment, having been crowned IBF World Featherweight Champion by defeating Lee Selby in impressive fashion. If he was the underdog in that contest then he certainly was in his defence against two-weight king Carl Frampton. Again, winning in impressive fashion perhaps in this defence Warrington will finally be the bookies favourite.

Kid Galahad has been waiting for his chance and many thought that Warrington would go up in weight and vacate the title. Instead Warrington will stay at the weight and defend his IBF belt again.

When the purse bids were called it was anticipated that Queensbury promotions would win the bid with the contest no doubt being pegged as pay-per-view on BT Sports. Eddie Hearn has stated previously that this wouldn’t necessarily be PPV on Sky and anticipated the promotional rights going to Frank Warren.

Taking to twitter Barry Awad (Kid Galahad) said:

Congrats to Queensberry for winning the purse bid for my world title bout versus Josh Warrington

Respect to Josh for taking the fight. Huge thanks to my promoter Eddie Hearn or his continued support in getting the fight made. Your faith will be repaid

A date and venue are yet to be confirmed but this will be one to watch if Josh Warrington’s last two contests are anything to go by. Only this time, it’s an all Yorkshire dust up.
