Derek Chisora teams up with Dave Coldwell

Derek ‘War’ Chisora has just announced he is teaming up with Dave Coldwell as his new trainer. Never to do things the conventional way, Chisora stunned many by teaming up with former foe, David Haye, last year. Similarly, former head of Hayemaker boxing, Dave Coldwell would have seemed an unlikely team member before. However, Chisora is doing the best for his boxing and perhaps the former trainer of long-term friend Tony Bellew is in actual fact a likely move.

Even though Chisora is coming off the back of a loss to Dillian Whyte with a heavy knockout, you can’t help but think Chisora still has a lot to offer the sport and the Heavyweight division. Putting the loss to one side it seems Chisora is taking things very seriously, he is surrounding himself with the right professionals and he has come into his last fight in what can only be regarded as career best shape.

People know by now that I don’t like to do things the conventional way. This is a new direction for me, I’m excited to be working with Dave Coldwell, I’m learning every day, I’m buzzing. Dave has done amazing work with my good friend Tony Bellew and his other boxers. I’m hungry to get back in the ring again, I will be back with new armoury I’m ready for WAR. – Chisora

At Hayemaker we’re one hundred percent behind Derek and Dave and we support them as they embark on their quest to be part of the biggest, most exciting heavyweight showdowns. – Haye

Dave Coldwell is one of Britain’s top trainers with great successes coming with Gavin and Jamie McDonnell, Anthony Fowler, Jordan Gill and Tony Bellew. Speaking about the new relationship Coldwell said:

Boxing throws up plenty of surprises and it was a real big surprise to get a call from David to work with Derek. It’s water under the bridge as far I’m concerned with any past history and we’re now working together for the benefit of Derek. – Coldwell

With a fight with Parker muted for Chisora’s next match up it looks like he has a great trainer in his corner to leave no stone unturned in preparation. A win will catapult him right back into the mix at the top of the division.
